Question
May Allah bless you. Is Al-Hafiy among the names of Allah? The Shaykh: Hmm? The question: Al-Hafiy.
Answer (English translation)
The Shaykh:
It occurs in the Noble Qur'an: [Indeed, He is ever gracious to me] (Surah Maryam 19:47). I do not know of it being mentioned unconditionally among the names of Allah the Exalted; rather, it is qualified (restricted to a context). So instead of a person supplicating by saying 'O Hafiy, be gracious to me,' he should say: 'O Most Merciful, have mercy on me,' and if it concerns a sin he says: 'O All-Forgiving, forgive me,' and so on.
