It is related from some of Zayd’s family that, when he faced the Ka‘bah inside the Sacred Mosque, he would say, “Here I am, truly and sincerely, in worship and servitude. I seek refuge in what Abraham sought refuge in, standing toward the qiblah. My Lord, I come to You captive and humbled; whatever You lay upon me, I will undertake. I seek righteousness, not pride; the one who seeks the good is not like the one who speaks without it.” Ibn Hisham records another reading of the final lines and says that the description “facing the Ka‘bah” comes from some scholars.
