Read the corresponding Arabic sectionIbn Ishaq said: Among what reached him of the Gospel given to Jesus son of Mary was a description of the Messenger of Allah, which the disciple Yuhannas recorded when he copied the Gospel from the teaching of Jesus, peace be upon him.
The passage says: “Whoever hates me has hated the Lord. If I had not done among them works such as no one before me had done, they would have had no sin; but from now they have become insolent and thought they could overcome me and the Lord. Yet the saying in the Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without cause.’ When the Munhamanna comes, whom Allah sends to you from the Lord, the Holy Spirit who comes from the Lord, he will bear witness concerning me, and you too, because you were with me from the beginning.” The text explains Munhamanna as “Muhammad” in Syriac and gives “Paraclete” as its Greek form.
