Although Quraysh recognized the truthfulness of the Messenger and the knowledge of the unseen conveyed in his answers, envy kept them from believing. They persisted in disbelief and urged one another: “Do not listen to this Qur’an; make noise over it, so that you may prevail” (41:26).
